Despite an extremely promising start to his career, Eric Addo has struggled to meet the expectations of his country.
The 27-year-old was seen as one of the brightest prospects back in 1998 when he was voted Ghana's player of the year following his African Nations Cup displays and two highly successful seasons in Belgium for Club Brugge.
In 1999, PSV Eindhoven fought off stiff competition to sign the powerful defender for £3.7million but a serious knee injury thwarted his progress at both club and national level.
After a six-year absence from Ghana's side, Addo returned to the international scene in 2004 but many say he was a shadow of his former self.
He currently plays a minimal role for the Dutch giants and this has hampered his chances of becoming a regular for his country.
Blessed with strength and pace, Addo could be a key player for his side in Germany - and perhaps this is the time for him to rise to prominence.
