A regular in the Swiss national team by the time he was 19, defensive midfielder Raphael Wicky is another veteran of the Euro 96 side.
He came to prominence at SC Sion where he won a league and cup double in 1997 before sealing a move to Werder Bremen that summer.
In his first season in the Bundesliga he was awarded the Swiss Player of the Year award, and he moved to his current club Hamburg in 2001 after a brief stint at Athletico Madrid.
Wicky is a combative midfielder who gets few goals but is defensively solid. With him, Johann Vogel and Philippe Senderos in the team, Switzerland will not be an easy team to penetrate at the World Cup.
